LONDON (Reuters)-more than 80,000 British claim payments for long term sick leave due to obesity or drug or alcohol addiction, a contribution to the a 7 billion pound annual accounts for incapacity benefit, the Government said Thursday.
Of these more than 21,200 alcoholics and drug addicts have received the payments for over 10 years according to the Ministry for work and pensions.
"The safety net should be far from it, that the benefits, which thousands of people in a cycle is looking for system and has caught the welfare dependency with no view, again and again to work," labor Minister Chris Grayling said in a statement.
In the course of his welfare, the Government has begun by review of social use the circumstances of 1.9 million people from working on inability to see if they fit enough to return employment.
Minister promises more help for those out of work, but to threaten sanctions against those to avoid a job.
The changes are politically risky and provoke a public backlash, in a time of rising unemployment, Government economy measures and an economy weakened by a deep recession might.
