Can obese pregnant women shed pounds safely? (Reuters)

women who are very obese may be able to safely on weight lose, during the pregnancy and may their risk reduction, that suggests you a caesarean section, a new study.

The results, reported in the journal obstetrics & Gynecology and add evidence that at least some obese women may be in a position to shed pounds without damage themselves or their child during pregnancy.

But researchers still caution that women should be a weight loss diet during pregnancy not started, and should change talk instead about healthy diet and lifestyle with their doctor.

The general recommendations from the Institute of Medicine (IOM), an advisory body for the US Government, say that obese women should gain during pregnancy to 11 to 20 pounds.

Normal weight women recommends the less than 25 to 35 pounds. But some researchers have criticized the IOM guidelines for the examination of not different levels of obesity.

A few studies have suggested that women, the less pregnancy are heavily obese pounds gain or lose weight even without their children or can cause damage to their own health.

In the new study examined Dr. Marie Blomberg, of the University of Linköping, in Sweden, medical data for more than 46,000 obese pregnant women who gave from 1993 to 2008 birth.

You women in three categories of obesity split: class 1 overweight, which a body-mass index (BMI) between 30 and 35; Class 2 (a BMI between 35 and 40); and class 3 (BMI of 40 or greater).

Blomberg said that the women in the latter two groups, who won less than the IOM empfiehlt-- or even lost weight-were less provide a large newborn or need a c section than their counterparts who get the recommended amount.

In women with class 2 obesity for example had 17 percent of those losing weight a c section, compared with 24 percent of those, which gained the IOM recommended amount.

And tariff seemed newborn with very obese women who lost weight than babies whose mothers won the recommended amount.

You were not more likely to go in fetal distress or have a low Apgar score-a measure of respiration, heart rate, and other health indicators directly after birth.

The results indicate, that it is "at least not harmful" to win less than the IOM for very obese pregnant women should or may lose pounds, Blomberg said Reuters Health via e-Mail.

However, exactly how much weight loss could be sure, is unclear. The weight loss for women in this study have information about the area Blomberg. And she said that they unaware of other studies which have proposed a safe area.

It can be to lose a compromise in obese women during pregnancy weight: an increase in the risk of having a baby, small for gestational age-during which she was born is smaller than the norm for a baby sex and the week of the pregnancy.

Blomberg found that the small was those who were lost twice as likely to have a baby weight, to the most obese women (a BMI of 40 or more), for gestational age.

However came, their indicating what is generally seen among pregnant women. Overall 3.7 percent had a small for gestational age newborn-compared with 3.6 per cent under all births in Sweden.

The bottom line, according to Blomberg, is that some weight loss "reasonably safe" may be for women who are severely obese.

However, she women against any type of weight loss shows diet during pregnancy from show. Instead, she said they should aim at a balanced, healthy diet food and get regular moderate movement, such as a half-hour walk every day.

This is the General Council. But it is "very important", Blomberg said for obese pregnant women with their own doctor about diet and lifestyle changes may be to speak.
