low vitamin D in obese adolescents are common, a new study finds.
Researchers screened 68 obese young people and low vitamin D levels in all of the girls (72 percent are deficient and inadequate found 28 percent) and 91 percent of the young (69 percent defective and inadequate 22 percent).
Their had again measured vitamin D levels in the treatment of 43 of young people and, although increases in General, normal level have been achieved in only 28 percent of the participants. In the other, repeated bouts of vitamin D treatment bring not the teens vitamin D levels normal, which the researchers described as a "Reference".
Young people lack of appeal to the said treatment may be due to the fact that vitamin D in body fat is seized, the researchers.
"The prevalence of low vitamin D status among obese young people in this study is reported greater than previously for this age group," Dr. Zeev Harel, a physician's specializing hospital in Providence, r.i., in Hasbro children adolescent medicine and lead author of the study, said the hospital in a press release.
The study was published in the may health issue of the journal of adolescent.
Vitamin d is the skin when established in response to exposure to sunlight. Can be found in certain foods, eggs, fish and fortified foods such as dairy products and cereals.
"It is possible that the association between obesity and low vitamin D status indirect, in obese people with less outdoor activities than lean people and therefore less exposure to the Sun, is", wrote the researchers. "As it is also possible that obese people eat not enough food to do that contain the vitamin d"
It calls for closer monitoring of the vitamin D levels in obese adolescents and more research to determine if the recovery could help the normal vitamin D levels to reduce the health risks with obesity.
Obesity-now estimated 16.4 per cent of children and young people between 10 and 17--the risk influence of high blood pressure, heart disease and type 2 diabetes, as well as some types of cancer may increase, the researchers noted.
