Weight-loss surgery patients: Hesitate exercise! 33 KDAF-TV

Nicole Calhoun weighed 315 pounds, before she had weight loss surgery, three years ago and got up to 265, but that was it. Recently, she heard about a post bariatric practice study at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

After 12 weeks, all lost about 10 pounds but the exercise group increased cardiovascular fitness by 10%.

"Well, you just do not rely on to make the surgery it for you," said Dr. Snell. "You need to increase your energy usage also;" "I think this is the bottom line."

Dr. Shah, who is also Professor at the Texas Christian University, said that the goal was to simply find out if Bariatric could vigorously exercise patients.

"We just saw that they do actually as much exercise," said Dr. Shah. "The next thing we want to look at is, as soon as they start, exercising this much it can really help them maintain this weight loss."

Nicole and others in the exercise group were 2000 calories per week-burn, which is about is an hour of exercise five days a week.

Researchers were surprised to find that the volunteers, after practice step count from 5,000 to almost 10,000 rose. Nicole said, new spring in their step.

"I noticed it was not that difficult to go the stairs at work," said Nicole. "I wanted the stairs instead of the elevator actually walking."

Nicole lost 20 pounds during the 12-week students and is a case study, not only bariatric patients exercise energisch-- book can be.

"It is really nice, people think a lot, I am very much less than I really am, but I am still 185," said Nicole. "I am very happy at 185."
