mature women, overweight or obese and more than 15 percent of body weight lose significantly their levels of vitamin D boost could, new research suggests.
By researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, study also shows that the increase in vitamin D research scientists of new ways for the prevention of chronic diseases such as cancer and diabetes might help.
"Since vitamin D in people with obesity in the rule is lower, is, in part it is possible that low vitamin D can the connection between obesity and diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes," said study author Caitlin Mason, postdoctoral research fellow, in a press release of Hutchinson.
Vitamin d is a fat-soluble nutrient, which affect many important roles in the body, including promoting calcium absorption, reducing the inflammation and cell health and the immune system plays. It has found in certain foods, such as such as fatty fish, and of course in the body produced by solar radiation.
The study, published in the May 25 online edition of the American Journal of clinical assigned 439 overweight or obese women after a nutrition, the menopause of four therapies: exercise only, no intervention, only diet and exercise plus diet.
Although women who lost up to 10 percent of their body weight (10 to 20 pounds) through diet and exercise saw modest increases of the vitamin D, these levels were about three times higher in women, which fell by more than 15 percent of their body weight, regardless of what they ate.
"We were surprised, the effect of weight loss greater than 15 per cent to blood vitamin D levels," study senior author Dr. Anne McTiernan, Director of the Centre Hutchinson Prevention Center, said in the press release. "It seems that the relationship between weight loss and blood vitamin D is not linear but with more weight loss is dramatic."
McTiernan came to the conclusion that the findings suggest the greater the increase in the vitamin D levels weight loss, the more meaningful.
The researchers mention, is, however, to what extent the vitamin D the body during and after weight loss remains unclear. It also shows that more card is targeted research necessary to understand a link between vitamin D deficiency and chronic disease.
